About Artair Therapy

I started Artair Therapy to help people through difficult times.  At times counselling's helped me deal with problems changing my worldview for the better.  I want to support clients like I've been supported.

After years of study (Msc Psychology, Diploma in Counselling), I qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist.  I'm insured and a member of NCPS and BPS.

My mission is to empower clients using effective therapeutic interventions, with compassion, to nurture emotional resilience, and mental well-being.

And show you there are things you can do to help yourself feel better, cope,  deal with overwhelm when you might feel powerless.

I integrate the latest psychological research with well established knowledge from a variety fields such as CBT. DBT (dialectal behaviour therapy) skills, psychodynamics and more

What tools are used in counselling?

Here's a few....

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) CBT helps identify & change unhelpful “cognitions” or thought patterns, beliefs, & behaviour which may be keeping you stuck.  CBT can be used to challenge distorted or irrational thoughts such as “I am always going to fail”. Reframing thoughts & core beliefs enables clients to work on more helpful ways of thinking leading to improved mental well-being.

DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) skills. DBT can help you overcome intense or dysfunctional emotions, self-harm, and addictive behaviour.  There are many DBT exercises that can be employed to help clients learn self-acceptance, better tolerate distress, & manage emotions, and more, in a more balanced and healthy way.

Attachment Theory can assist you become aware of attachments styles left over from childhood that may be causing struggles in current relationships, such as avoidant, anxious, and disorganised patterns of relating to other people.  It can help clients deal with self-sabotage, to heal emotional wounds such as fear of abandonment, difficulty with trusting, to develop secure attachments leading to feelings of self-worth, & healthier relationships within family, friend groups, and the workplace.

Psychodynamic Therapy Often, we are driven by processes we are not aware of, perhaps reliving unresolved conflicts from the past.  Psychodynamic psychology can help you explore any unconscious processes that are influencing emotions, behaviour, and relationships.  It can help identify if transference, or defence mechanisms for example, are being deployed in unhealthy ways so the clients gain more control in life, for long term growth, and well-being.

In Human Centred Therapy the “therapeutic” relationship between client & therapist is the most important factor for successful outcomes.  Using “core” conditions of empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard to work together with clients to process feelings, & develop healthier coping strategies.   The sessions are “client led”, which means the therapist is not the “expert” on the clients personal and unique life experience.  With a focus on self-acceptance & self-compassion, working towards client empowerment, healing and growth.

Trauma Informed Therapy The most important aspect of trauma informed therapy is creating feelings of safety for clients. If you are suffering from the impact of trauma &/or PTSD Trauma Informed therapy can help you regain feelings of being in control, a sense of agency, reduce hypervigilance, deal with flashbacks, & rebuild issues with trust. Trauma affects brain development, our emotions, relationships & can lead to uncontrolled anger & rage. Therapy can aid building inner strength, resilience, to process & move on from trauma then heal

Climate change overwhelm, eco-anxiety

Burn-out & Hope

Therapy for eco-anxiety can help you deal with anxiety due climate change, destruction of the natural world, & environment degradation.

First and foremost, it's vital to recognise your feelings are legitimate and valid. They're in response to complex issues the planet is experiencing as a consequence of human behaviour.

It is important to ask for help when eco anxiety is interfering with daily functioning, social interaction, is leading to depression, panic attacks, insomnia, or despair.

Nature based therapy, such as walking and talking counselling helps to connect us back to nature. Natural settings assist in building feelings of connection, aiding reflection and healing.

Whether it is online sessions or out waling in nature, counselling for eco-anxiety can help you deal with any distress, overwhelming feelings, anger, & any possible lack or loss of tolerance for uncertainty.

Clients often seek help for dealing with eco-anxiety as resilience levels are low and they feel hopeless.

Counselling can help explore these feelings, help with rebuilding energy levels, learning about more suitable coping strategies, and if needed finding a way to a more hopeful and active path.
